Let me describe the scene I saw yesterday at my office. As I told you on previous post, I can't take a day off because I just report to the new job.
Once the o'clock turned to lunch time yesterday, a lot of my colleagues ran toward to cafeteria for television. At that time, the game was on top of 8th inning. Marte just got the lefty out he need to . Here we go. Girardi called on Mo to close the game.
Since that moment, everyone in the cafeteria wants to have a strike call for every pitch. With every minute and every pitch passing by, our lunch break closes to the end. Everyone in the cafeteria start screaming on "come on".
When Mo gets the ground ball to Cano, everyone stands up and ready go back to work with a smile on the face.

CC vs KC
7:06pm I am watching Red Sox vs Angels. Hopefully, Papelbon blows a game for Red Sox. Man, I hate it when Papelbon saves the game successfully. Back to Yankees.
7:16pm Hopefully, Teixeira is fine. Swisher really has good eyes at the plate. If Posada can get on base somehow, I believe hot Cano will drive them in. So, I think Posada will have a good pitch to hit because hot Cano hits behind him.
7:20pm See, I told you. Posada drives them in. Let see what Cano can do.
7:22pm Hopefully, CC makes the adjustment he needs and has a great day.
7:25pm CC strikes out CoCo. It seems CC has great command of his fastball. I think CC will have a good day. That's why CC and Wang are the last things we need to worry about as long as they are healthy.

8:15pm CC is in a mini jam. Well, that is strikeout can do to you. CC has pitched 4 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts at 49 pitches. At this rate, CC can pitch 8 innings.
8:26pm Swisher is red hot at the plate. Man, these position battles will keep everyone motivating.
8:42pm CC loses command a little bit, so he is in mini jam. I don't care how much Ransom hits, but his defense has been horrible. CC works out the jam. Hopefully, CC will be able to give us two more innings.
9:03pm What a great at bat by Jeter who works a 10 pitches walk. Jeter really makes conscious effort to be a great lead off man.
9:12pm CC has increasing jams with innings going by. I think 7th inning will be his last inning. Girardi may go to Marte at 8th inning. Swisher just makes a nice play at 1B. Bench is really important. If you don't have a good bench, you are in trouble when some regular players get hurt or in a huge slump.
9:30pm CC misses his spots more the last couple of innings. However, how much runs a pitcher gives up is the most important thing.
9:46pm I am a little bit surprised to see CC pitching in the 8th inning. I guess they want CC to get to 110 pitches. A nice strikeout by Veras as well. If I have to bet who pitches 9th inning for Yankees, it will be Marte.
10:14pm Walks always come back to hurt pitchers. Veras doesn't have a clear outing, but he gets the job done. We certainly need to give Bruney and Mo some rest.

Pettitte vs KC
5:27pm Ha! guys, I join this game. Yankees lead 2-1 now.
5:41pm I really need to complain about new MLB media player. First of all, it breaks and stop playing so many time. Secondly, you can't fast forward or rewind when you listen to audio after the game finishes. Thirdly, why we can't choose to listen to WCBS when we watch YES.
5:48pm Cano and Swisher have been extremely hot. I can't image Swisher doesn't play again tomorrow and may move Cano the batting order.
5:50pm Ransom has played very horrible defensively and offensively. He even makes a base running mistake.

Wang's 4th Spring Training Outing
I won't be able to listen to the whole game. I probably will stay few innings.
1:10pm It sounds like Cano hits the ball hard. Teixeira has another hit.
1:19pm It sounds like Wang doesn't have a very good start when he gives up few hard hit balls.
1:28pm It seems to me Melky often hits behind in the count.
1:30pm Astros has been lost a lot this spring training. Hopefully, Yankees will be the team lose to them.
1:33pm It sounds like Wang pitches a little bit better in second inning than first inning.
1:41pm Yankees hitters haven't figured out Hampton yet.
1:43pm It seems Wang gets his fair share of groundballs. Another swinging strikeout for Wang.
1:45pm Could Astros announcers stop talking themselves? Geez. What a terrible broadcasting. By the way, Wang gets two more groundballs and has retired 7 batters in a row.

USA wins in bottom of 9th
Well, I guess I miss the most exciting part of this game when I fall sleep and turn off computer. My first impression is the closers of two teams are terrible. Thanks god we have Mo.
I actually think Jeter demonstrates better range up to middle even though he doesn't come up with two balls hit toward middle. Of course, Jeter obviously slow down because of age that is natural. Not to mention, Jeter walks in the 7th inning on critical spot and hits ball hard in the 9th inning. It will be important for Cano to play better defense and help out Jeter up to middle.
Two teams certainly put on a great show. As a baseball fan, I certainly can't ask more. The most impressive play for me is the catch Beltran does in the center field.

Why I say stupid Cano regard of his injury
I want to make one thing clear why I say Cano is stupid regard of his injury. I am not here to judge and tell people what the most important thing is for them because I know everyone has different opinions on importance of different things in their life. Other people should not use their own standard to judge others.
I feel Cano is stupid for two reasons. First of all, I think people should treat any person the same no matter nationality and race. If we want the world becomes peacefully, we should treat other people the same and try to understand them. This just like the way we treat our family. I haven't been able to do that completely, but I work hard toward that direction that I believe it's a right direction.
For me, I cheer and enjoy high performance that is displayed by any athlete from any country and any race. I learn this based on years I have stayed in many places. In the past, I cheered for Taiwanese national team crazily. Now, I won't be extremely upset if my national team or favorite team lose. Of course, I am a Yankees fan. It's still hard for me when Red Sox beat us. But, I respect any athlete or team whose high performance.
That's why I don't mind players want to play in WBC for their countries, but not when they are hurt or just come back from injury.
Secondly, I don't agree athlete should play through pain all the time. I know players play with less than 100% quite often, but at some point they don't help their teams to win. This just like we know we should stay at home and don't go to work if we are sick. Team may lose with you when you play through injury and may win with the replacement. Baseball is a team sport, not individual sport. I sometimes feel players just don't want to lose their playing time or lose their jobs to someone.
Not to mention, Yankee is Cano and Marte's employer. Be able to stay on the field is part of their responsibilities. They have responsibility to inform Yankees and make decision with Yankees, not by themselves. Cano should tell Yankees when he feels that before WBC. Who knows what kind of decision Yankees will make. Yankees may let him play in WBC, but make sure he doesn't play this much. Yankees may send Cano to check out and find out there is nothing wrong with him. And then Cano is clear to play. We are all mad when our friends or family make some huge decisions that impact other people by themselves. It's about respect.

Stupid Cano
After reading reports from Peter's blog regard how Marte and Cano get hurt, I have to admit I am a little bit mad at Cano when I read Cano feels his shoulder tight before leaving for WBC. He not only doesn't tell Yankees but also goes there to play three games. I can't image what kind of damage Cano will do to himself if Dominican Republic is not eliminated ?
I know Cano gets his long term contract, but he needs to think about his team and Yankees more. I know players play at less than 100% all the time(except Pavano), but not for WBC in my opinion.

oh, no, Marte and Cano get hurt in WBC
According to the report from Peter's blog, Marte and Cano get hurt in WBC and are going to check out by doctors tomorrow. Hopefully, they don't have serious injury. Hopefully, they just have normal sore and pain that happen in the spring training all the time. We better start praying for Jeter and hope USA team to lose sooner than later.

Joba first spring training game
1:27pm Posada has been scratched because of shoulder discomfort. Hopefully, He is fine. I never want any player get hurt including players on other teams. That's why I don't want to see Santana hurt as well.
1:35pm It seems both starters have rocky start. I don't think Joba has his velocity back yet.
1:45pm Giese is up. I believe Girardi will have a long man in the bullpen. Giese should be a leading candidate for that role. Is wind blowing out today?
1:55pm Is this the Yankees team I know? Two sacrifice flies in a row? Play small ball well?
2pm Why every ball is flying out(or almost) the ballpark? It seems to me Giese doesn't have command yet.

My first game of 2009
YES. This second spring training officially opens 2009 season for me. If "most" people stay healthy, we are going to have a fantastic 2009 season. I will try to liveblog this game as much as I can.
1:10pm Watching a introduction clip of free agents signing get me to feel exciting for 2009 season.
1:22pm Does Hughes hit batters because he throws cutters?
1:27pm Not a bad first inning for Hughes,right?
1:33pm I am a little bit disappointed at Teixeira's first at bat. Ha! I think I expect too much. This is just a spring training game. However, his defense is certainly great.
1:39pm Hughes has better command at second inning. I think we should stop looking at radar gun reading at this stage of spring training.
1:46pm Is it possible for Yankees broadcasting crew not to talking about steroids? I am just tired of hearing the same thing again and again.

3:10pm Shelley Duncan certainly loves to hit Rays. I really think Shelley should be able to contribute to other major league team as a power righthand batter off bench. If he can somehow figure out breaking balls, he will become quite a player.
3:15pm Gardner makes a great catch and almost double up runner at second base. Gardner certainly has an edge over Melky right now.
3:16pm Melancon is up now. Most his pitches are at lower part of strike zone. He also changes speed quite well.

Keep Cano
I still think about Todd many times a day and really want to keep previous post on top. I guess we always can remember every good things from that person while we move on in our life. I guess Todd will want to know what happen in the Yankees land as well.
According to MLB Trade Rumors, Cardinals called Yankees and asked about Cano. I am glad to hear Cashman was asking Adam Wainwright in return.
Be honest with you guys, I watch more American league games than national league games. But, I know Adam Wainwright is a good young pitcher.
This tells us two things. First of all, Yankees are not just trading Cano away cheaply and are not giving up him. We all know Yankees are short of positional prospects on the farm system. As bad as Cano was last season, he still is pretty decent among second baseman. I know there still is a good second baseman on the market. But, he is 5 years older than Cano. I believe Cano will have a rebound year.
Secondly, By asking Adam Wainwright in return, we know Yankees still look to add depth in their starting rotation. In my opinion, we still need a no.4 starter when Joba can keep his inning on track as no.5 starter. Don't forget Mo come back from a shoulder surgery and Wang come back from a serious foot injury. Not to mention Burnett's long injury history. We really need to add some kind of depth to our rotation. Come on Pettitte and Yankees! Just settle for a deal around 12-13 million a year.

A rebound year from Hughes, Kennedy, Melky and Cano?
Accroding to RAB regard of Greg Maddux's retirement at winter meeting, the information to young pitcher:“the best way to learn is to screw up and not do it again.”
Immediately, I think about Hughes, Kennedy, Melky and Cano. I hope Yankees don't trade them and believe they may have a bound back year in 2009. Before 2008, they haven't actually failed in their professional baseball. I believe they all learn a lot from 2008 season and will do well in 2009.

Congrats Dustin Pedroia for his MVP award
I hope this gives Cano extra or enough motivations for next season. I think this should and will let Cano want to prove himself. This is a valuable lesson for Cano. You need to work hard to realize your talent. Cano probably has much more talent than Pedroia. However, right now, it seems Pedroia work harder than Cano.
I know I should not feel happy for Pedroia, but I did. Congrats to him. He deserved it. Everyone don't think he can do it based on his talent and his size. Girardi told Posada: "Don't lose your job because someone work harder than you."
The reason I feel happy for Pedroia is I also believe there is nothing someone else can do I can't do. I am not smart with every bad memory. I also need to study or work harder than a lot of people in order to get a above average mark. Pedroia win a MVP is really a nice story.

Just don't get beat by yourself....
Recently, I not only have to keep working on my stuff but also keep my eyes on Yankees and Olympic games. I certainly watch my Taiwan baseball team play in Olympic games.
Do you know the difference of the way they play between Yankees and Taiwan? My Taiwan baseball team don't get beat by ourselves. I believe most Yankees fan have same feeling as me. When we watch Yankees playing, we feel stressful, uneasy and frustrated every time out even when the games Yankees win. Why? Our bombers beat themselves too often.
If my Taiwan baseball team get beat, we won't get beat by ourselves. My Taiwan baseball team is not a super strong team. We are not even a favor in this competition. We are going to lose some games I am pretty sure about that, but the reason will be the other team play better than us, not because we get beat by ourselves.
No matter my Taiwan baseball team win or lose, I always feel stress free and end up with feeling Let's go get them next time or they just play better than us. I won't feel frustrated and stressful after game. I won't have "what if" in my mind.
Take game 1 against Netherlands as example, Our pitchers won't give up too many free passes. We play great defense. Our position players not only play a flawless defense but also make few beautiful plays.
We don't have a lot of players can't hit for power, but we are very selective at the plate, move runners over and get them in very well. In fact, 2 of 5 runs came with sacrifice fly. When there is a runner on base, we will do whatever we can to move runner even when we can't get a hit.
On top of that, when the other team give us a chance to beat them. We won't miss it. For example, the only big inning we have is in the fourth inning when we score 3 of 5 runs. Netherlands pitcher give up 2 walks in that inning. We score 3 runs on two singles and one sacrifice fly.
This is something I think I miss most when I watch Yankees playing. Damon threw to second instead of third on a sacrifice fly. Cano and Betemit miscommunicate on stolen base. Cano made that costly error before Young's three-run homerun. Melky and Cano miscommunicate on a short fly ball. Sexson fails at least to move runners when there is first and second no one out. These plays all let our Yankees fans wonder "what if" after game. This is fundamental baseball. These plays help you to win ball game.

The most impressive thing tonight for me is......
Today is absolutely happy day for Yankees fans who basically can choose whatever reason among others make you feel happy the most, but the most impressive thing for me is the way Yankees play defense at the 2nd inning.
What a inning is! First of all, Melky made a great play in the center fielder and then Cano with Jeter turned a beautiful double play after that. I was screaming at my computer and couldn't believe what I just saw. Amazing! When you consider the game ends at 1:0, I only have one word to say our Yankees team "WoW!" No matter how many Yankee fans complain about the offense production from Melky, Cano, and Jeter, don't count on me. These are three positions we need to have strong defense in order to become a championship team. Of course, you have to add on Molina on this department as well.
Joba and Mo are pretty amazing tonight. I can't help to think what will look like in Yankeeland when we have Joba, Wang, Pettitte, Moose and Hughes at the rotation at the same time.

looking good
I think it's fair to say our bombers turn things around. Is it too greedy to wish a sweep and have a 5-1 road trip? I am tired of watching Yankees to stay around .500. I know we already took a series from Astros, but it will be nice to be 4 games over .5oo, right?
I am so happy to see Mussina winning his 260th career victory. Congrats, Moose. Of course, it doesn't hurt that our offense actually shows up in this game. Hopefully, our offense keep producing like that against Oswalt. Girardi looks like a genius when he decides to bat Melky in the 6th hole and pinches hit Cano, right? I think it's fair to say Girardi know what he is doing.

I told you so...
Follow me to repeat this word "DEFENSE". You can't win a champion without "decent" defense. You can see the reaction from Jeter toward Cano who is supposed to be on second base to receive the force, but Jeter should take some blame for high throw to first base as well. Damon also lost a flyball.
Most people always say, Pitchers should pick up his teammates after errors. In my opinion, Pitchers are human beings as well, how come you can expect them to keep their emotion in check every time when position players make errors, especially when you consider if those errors lead to runs.
But, Of course, Moose and Jeter doesn't point their fingers to anyone else but themselves. I believe they will turn this around from their reactions after the game.
When we feel good about the return of A-Rod, Jeter gets hit on his hand whose status is listed day to day.
Can this be our turning point of season? I hope so. Oh, By the way, A-Rod hit a two run homer and it seems Edwar Ramirez is a real deal.

Cano's long term deal.....
How about Wang??? Just kidding.... Nice signing for Yankees if it is true(not official yet).....This is nice gesture for Yankees front office to show their prospects on their farm. Basically, they tell them you guys are very important for us. If you perform well, you will get nice reward.
Cano also shows his ability to make adjustment when opponents make adjustments to him. The proof is he doubles the walk total in 2007. From Business perspective, it saves money for long run. Even though money is not an issue for Yankees, it doesn't mean they don't need to save money.
In addition, if Yankees want to trade Cano in the future, this 6-years deal will be a big plus for Yankees and his trading partnesr because other teams don't have to worry about arbitration years and the possibility Cano will be a free agent soon.
As for Wang, he will have his long term deal eventually as long as he stays healthy. We certainly can't blame Yankees for concern of pitcher's healthy. Of course, it's nice for Wang to have long term deal on his hand. No matter Wang gets long term deal or not, he always works hard and wants to improve himself. Potential...
One of this blog reader(Andrea) asked me did I watch Wang's last game?Yes,I watch almost every yankees games.Some of them I watch live games,others I watch after games finished.I did watched Wang's game.The only feeling I have about Wang's game is his ability of learning.It's pretty amazing for me to see how Wang have been doing so far this season.
As a Taiwanese,you guys pretty quitely understand why I crazily root for Wang no matter how he pitch.Be honest with you guys.I am not as unbiased as most yankees fans about everything of Wang.We all know Wang had amazing season last year.Most experts in many different media outlets keep expressing tons of opinions about Wang.They don't believe he can keep his success.We don't even have to go through about "ACE" topic.I am not going to go through this old debate and cliche again with you guys.
There are two aspects of success in the baseball game players have to take care of.One is physical aspect.The other is mental aspect.I am even going to go through the menatl part again.The reason for Wang's success so far is his sinker.It's easy for people to stay in the same way and comfortable zone which bring them success.Change means challenge.It's also not easy for people to keep learning.People tend to become more and more lazy.The most amazing thing for me about Wang this season is he is throwing more and more nasty slider and changeup.
Remember this,no scouts projected Wang's success before he came out.Diamondbacks didn't

LAA@NYY May 27th
I don't know Yankees will win this game or not.But,I will say this first.No matter they win this game or not,they already showed me something I really like it.In the top third inning,Moose just flew out and tried to catch a ball back to mound.They will do whatever to win ball game,not to talk to how to win the ball game.
Update:again,at the bottom of 4 inning,Cano ran so hard to get a double.
Update:on top of 6 inning,Cano and Melky,they all make a good defense play.It saves some pitches Moose can throw in another inning.
Update:Man,Yankees fans won't quit
Update:I don't know the overcome of the game.I would like to hand K-Rod a blown save.
Update:Obviously,We lost again,But Jeter is the man.He won't quit.He is the guy I want when this kind of situation come out again.
In my opinion,they are fighting for win.That's all you can ask as a fan.I know,they lost again.I agree Torre's decision about taking Moose out.Moose gave up the first walk of the game.That decision just doesn't work out.You can't second-guess that decision.I will go to Proctor as well.
Offense need to do something.You can't ask all the pitchers in the yankees for pitching perfectly all the time,including starters and relief pitchers.You put too much pressure on pitchers not to make any mistakes.Just like the preview post.Josh beckett has 2.66 ERA.Good,right?Do you know how many runs support he has per games?9.06 Runs support/per game.Dice-K has 8.46 runs support/per game.
Pitchers have runs support or not,it does effect how they pitch.There are too many yankees hitters in the slump at the same time for too long.They are in the slump almost one month.This is the big sample.You can't say they just run into hot pitchers.Yankees can't keep waiting on them to come around.They need to bench some of them and bring someone from minors.
When Yankees pitchers give up the runs,yankees hitters have to find a way to get some runs back as well.It seems this team has difficult time to come from behind.That's how the Red Sox won those games which their pitchers didn't pitch well.You have to pick up pitchers sometimes.
