Why Veras and Berroa are still with Yankees?

As you guys know, I expect to have a busy May and June. That's why I can't blog and watch Yankees games as many as I would like to. Please stay with me, I will be back at full speed when July comes around.

When our bombers are doing great, I have the same question as many Yankees fans have. Why Veras and Berroa are still with Yankees?

I know Veras has a great live arm, but he can't control where the ball goes that is the big problem for any relief pitcher in the bullpen.

When we have Pena as our utility infielder, why we need Berroa on our team?

I don't get it.

I know we are only few days away from getting Molina and Nady back. On top of that, our bombers are doing great right now, so it seems it doesn't matter at all.

See, Yankees read my blog

Based on information on Peter's blog,

Yankees called up Juan Miranda and optioned Dave Robertson back to minor

So, I guess Yankees front office read my blog(Just Kidding!). Yankees makes this move one day after I recommend Yankees to find someone who can hit and play 1B/3B decently.

Based on what I saw from Juan Miranda in spring training, I don't think he is the answer in the long run for two reasons.

First of all, I don't think his defense is decent at 1B and I don't think he is able to play 3B.

Secondly, he is another left hand bat.

That being said, he is the answer at this moment for three reasons.

First of all, he is on 40 men roster and from our farm system. Why not give him a shot now.

Secondly, we need to give Teixeira more breaks because of his left wrist injury when you consider Swisher is our everyday right fielder.

Thirdly, we need someone is able to hit that Miranda may be able to do it when you consider Matsui's left knee gives him trouble, Posada just comes back from major shoulder surgery and Damon is getting old.

Find someone can hit and play 1B/3B decently

Cashman really has to think about upgrading bench. The depth of outfield is fine. When you consider the way Cano plays defensively and offensively, I think Cashman needs to find someone who can hit and play corner infielder(1B/3B) decently to give A-Rod and Teixeira some breaks because A-Rod will need that after coming back from hip injury and Teixeira will need that after Swisher becomes everyday right fielder.

Updated: Peter said Teixeira got a cortisone shot in his left wrist on his blog, it only increases the needs to my point.

I am not good at coming out names. Who do you guys think who will be ideal candidate?

Opening day of New Yankees Stadium

12:40pm They are introducing many old Yankees great players now.

12:58pm They just finish introducing 2009 Yankees. It seems to me Jeter, Andy, Mo and Joba get the loudest cheers among current Yankees.

1:35pm I miss first inning because of some technology difficulty. I am not sure where the problem comes from. It comes from either my computer is suck or new mlb.tv is suck.

1:38pm Johnny Damon collects first hit of New Yankees stadium. I am sure there are many firsts many Yankees fans key eyes on.

1:49pm I face more technology difficulty and start to feel very annoying for me. I think the problem comes from new mlb.tv.

1:51pm Ransom just strikeout on a high fastball. He really can't look worse at the plate. At this rate, I don't think he will be able to keep his utility infielder job once A-Rod comes back. I don't want Pena to take that job and sit on the bench because I rather see him playing in AAA to get his work in.

2:02pm The way Yankees offence goes, we better hope CC has a great day. In fact, almost every yankees pitcher has to have that thought in their mind.

2:12pm Jeter makes a nice play to get double play the previous inning. He always know where he is and makes right plays. I am not sure how much mini wrist injury Teixeira play a role on his April slump. Fortunately for him, Yankees has been winning, so not many people give him hard time.

2:15pm I am a little bit surprised at seeing Damon only gets to third base. It's too bad Posada didn't drive them in.

2:26pm For some reasons, my feed is a little bit slower than others, so I don't read Peter's blog and mlb website during the game.

2:29pm CC just wastes a great play by Ransom who makes a great play to save a run by giving up RBI double. 1-0 Indians. However, If Ransom didn't make that play, Indians would score 2 runs in that inning.

2:32pm Because of that great play by Ransom, I promise not to get on Ransom as much as I did
2:33pm For some reasons, Cliff Lee looks like a Cy Young Award winner against Yankees.

2:35pm I guess it all depends on pitchers because new Yankees stadium doesn't look like a hitting friendly ballpark today which looks like one during exhibition. By the way, I will be mad if Yankees loses this game by 1-0, but I will not be mad at CC because Yankees should be able to score at least one run.

2:40pm Let us see whether magic Derek Jeter drive them in or not. It will be very fitting at this opening day of New Yankees stadium.

2:42pm It seems to me Yankees gets runners on with two outs every inning. It feels like this game has been played more than 4 innings.

2:53pm A great throw by Posada to get Sizemore which becomes a huge play because following two players single. If CC gets out this inning without giving up any run, I get a feeling Yankees will come back to win this game. If Ransom and Posada didn't make those two great plays, Indians would be up 3-0.

2:59pm I find out Yes feed is slower than others for some reasons.

3:05pm It's amazing two catchers hit the memorable homeruns at two Yankees stadium. Molina hits the last homerun of old Yankees stadium while Posada hits the first homerun of New Yankees stadium.

3:11pm Cano looks so differently good at the plate this season. He works another walk. As I promise, I won't talk about specific player. However, it's good to see Yankees drive Cliff Lee's pitch counts up to 103 through 5 innings. At most, he will only be able to throw another inning.

3:18pm I will image this will be CC's last inning. I think CC wants to pitch at least 6 innings as a competitior. I hope Edwar doesn't screw up this inning. Edwar makes me nervous as a relief pitcher.

3:32pm Sorry for lack of posts this past 10 mintues because I am so nervous. If Yankees can get out of this inning without giving up any run, we will win this game. I actually think Cano makes a great play to save a run when the ball is up to middle. It's amazing he is able to get to that ball.

3:37pm Yankees has played great baseball games lately. Today is another one. Today is kind of game when two great pitchers try to work out a jam after another and some great defense plays.
3:45pm Veras is another relief pitcher who makes me nervous for different reasons. Edwar gives up too many homeruns while Veras doesn't know where the ball goes. If Yankees can get out the 7th inning without giving up any run which will be a miracle, Yankees will have a great chance to win this game because the way Bruney and Mo throw.

3:55pm This game turns into a ugly show by Yankees bullpen. If I have to predict now, Veras won't be in the Yankees bullpen too long. Again, Veras gets into trouble by walking the leadoff batter of the inning. I know a lot of people will talk about the bridge to Mo. However, CC has to shoulder some of blame because he only pitches 5.2 inning.

4:00pm What a terrible job by Yankees bullpen. Marte gives up a run by walking a man when bases are loaded and gives up one gram slam and one solo shot.

4:04pm Right now, If Yankees want to win ball game, the 7th inning will be the key of ball game because Bruney settle in his 8th set up man role while Mo is our closer. No other relief pitcher in the Yankees bullpen pitches well other than Bruney and Mo in my opinion.

4:25pm It's good to see a relief pitcher throwing quality strike. I will predict Robertson will replace Veras' spot if he has few more this kind of inning.

4:29pm I know many Yankees fans are killing Girardi now because Veras and Marte's performance in the 7th inning. However, it's still young season. He can't wear out Bruney and Mo. He need to find another good relief pitcher in the bullpen. If we have lead, he certainly will put Bruney at 8th and Mo at 9th. Right now, we haven't found our go-to guy to pitch 7th at close game.

4:37pm I don't think Teixeira is hurt because Girardi also put Pena to replace Jeter at SS. Girardi is not afraid of taking his star players at blow out games in order to give them some rest.

4:46pm I know shadow may play a role on Robertson's good performance. However, he throws strike at good locations. It's impressive 2 innigs by Robertson, especially second inning he gets out of jam by getting Sizemore, DeRosa and Martinez.

4:54pm It seems to me shadow will play a role on protecting lead for day games which start at 1pm or scoring at early innnings for days games which start arond 3 or 4pm in the new Yankees stadium.

5:10pm Again, As I promise before, I am not going to talk about specific player that is pretty hard to do when you consider his performance at the plate. I know it's only 10 games, but the way he swings at the plate has been so bad.

Wang vs Orioles

7:13pm I have been busy these past few days and miss the opening game started by CC. I get a little bit time for this game, but I am not sure I can finish watching this game or not. Let us see.

7:16pm Let see Matsui can delivery a RBI or not. So, we need to wait....

7:22pm Hopefully, Wang has pressure free first inning because it seems he always has troubles in the first inning.

7:26pm So, I guess he won't have a easy first inning. It seems to me Wang don't have command of his sinkers yet. But, surprising, changeup is working. However, This doesn't surprise me Wang's sinkers haven't worked yet based on the interviews from Wang during spring training.

7:38pm Here comes a sort of better second inning from Wang

7:59pm Well, Matsui fails to delivery a RBI second time in a row.

8:22pm Who needs A-Rod if we get Ransom?

Ramiro Pena wins utility infielder job

I agree with this move. Pena plays great defense with great speed which is what you need for utility infielder. Angel Berroa may hit better than Pena at major league level, but how many more opportunities any utility infielder will get at this Yankees team when you also have Swisher and Melky who are two switch hitters on the bench. When you want to upgrade defense late for close game, Pena certainly offers more than Berroa whose defense is not good in my opinion.

Not to mention, Pena is from our farm system. It's right direction for Yankees organization to take by giving opportunity to prospects from our farm system with more upside potential. When A-Rod comes back, we can put Pena back to AAA in order to get him regular playing time.

Posada first action of spring behind the plate

1:16pm Glad to see Posada back

1:23pm Good first inning for Pettitte. I am still nervous to see Posada if he needs to throw to second base. I think Girardi should make Posada work with lefty(CC& Pettitte) more or power pitchers (Burnett& Joba) if he need to split time for Posada and Molina. In my opinion, Molina should work with Joba and Wang more because Wang is a ground ball pitcher and both of them don't hold runners well.

1:29pm I guess we have another candidate for leadoff spot. Good to see Matsui and Posada running well.

1:36pm I guess it's hard to test Posada's arm if Pettitte pitch well. Not to mention, Pettitte is a lefty who holds runners well.

1:48pm Berroa has a good sacrifice bunt while Pena has a good at bat to drive the runner in who is on third with less than two outs. When Jeter, Cano and A-Rod is away from team, Giardi certainly can have a good look at utility infielder.

1:52pm I guess the crisis of Yankees starting pitching is over. Pettitte looks good today.

1:57pm It will be very good for us if Posada can be healthy enough to be a starting catcher for around 110 game. Another chance for Yankees to play fundamental baseball. SEE, Teixeira drives that runner in with a sacrifice fly when runner on third with less than 2 outs. Yankees play fundamental baseball to drive two runs in with less than two outs. I like this kind of game.

2:04pm Matsui hurt opponent pitchers two days in a row. Sound kind of luck for Matsui?

2:06pm Good to hear Coke try to learn hard slider from Gator. I can't image Coke doesn't make the team as long as he is healthy.

2:09pm I don't understand those so called experts claim Yankees have to upgrade their bullpen or put Joba in the bullpen if they really watch Yankees playing.

2:12pm It's too bad Posada doesn't get a chance to throw to second base today. However, it's good to take it slowly. Spring training is still long way to go.

2:29pm If Yankees and Girardi consider Coke as long man, does that open another spot in the bullpen to other pitchers? If you ask me, I won't mess around with Coke. You put him in either as second lefty for one inning or long man. I will play Coke for one or two innings at maxium and put a real long man in the pen.

2:52pm It looks like Berroa may make the team as utility infielder because of the ability of hitting.

Just don't get beat by yourself....

Recently, I not only have to keep working on my stuff but also keep my eyes on Yankees and Olympic games. I certainly watch my Taiwan baseball team play in Olympic games.

Do you know the difference of the way they play between Yankees and Taiwan? My Taiwan baseball team don't get beat by ourselves. I believe most Yankees fan have same feeling as me. When we watch Yankees playing, we feel stressful, uneasy and frustrated every time out even when the games Yankees win. Why? Our bombers beat themselves too often.

If my Taiwan baseball team get beat, we won't get beat by ourselves. My Taiwan baseball team is not a super strong team. We are not even a favor in this competition. We are going to lose some games I am pretty sure about that, but the reason will be the other team play better than us, not because we get beat by ourselves.

No matter my Taiwan baseball team win or lose, I always feel stress free and end up with feeling Let's go get them next time or they just play better than us. I won't feel frustrated and stressful after game. I won't have "what if" in my mind.

Take game 1 against Netherlands as example, Our pitchers won't give up too many free passes. We play great defense. Our position players not only play a flawless defense but also make few beautiful plays.

We don't have a lot of players can't hit for power, but we are very selective at the plate, move runners over and get them in very well. In fact, 2 of 5 runs came with sacrifice fly. When there is a runner on base, we will do whatever we can to move runner even when we can't get a hit.

On top of that, when the other team give us a chance to beat them. We won't miss it. For example, the only big inning we have is in the fourth inning when we score 3 of 5 runs. Netherlands pitcher give up 2 walks in that inning. We score 3 runs on two singles and one sacrifice fly.

This is something I think I miss most when I watch Yankees playing. Damon threw to second instead of third on a sacrifice fly. Cano and Betemit miscommunicate on stolen base. Cano made that costly error before Young's three-run homerun. Melky and Cano miscommunicate on a short fly ball. Sexson fails at least to move runners when there is first and second no one out. These plays all let our Yankees fans wonder "what if" after game. This is fundamental baseball. These plays help you to win ball game.

Do you question every move Yankees' Manager make? I don't

Before going into this topic, I have to say this first. I am like every Yankees fans. I am not happy and feel frustrated when Yankees lose games. This is nothing to do what I am going to say.

Are you one of fans question Girardi sit Damon and Giambi and play Christian and Sexson? Are you one of fans always question and second guess every move Managers make? I don't because you never what would happen on the field if Managers did what you thought and you never really know what really happen behind the scene. Well, I think I try not to. Of course, I sometimes feel extremely upset and may lose my mind.

If you come to this blog to read these kind of analysis, I think you may feel disappointed from this aspect. You may say, "Well, You are a blogger of a Yankees' blog. If you don't write this and that, why bother to be a blogger?" I believe there are tons of blogs like that. For my blog, I just want to write positive things as many as I can and try to make my blog's readers enjoy watching baseball game as much as they can.

True story. I was one of producer sof one of play which include around 100 staff. One of main jobs I need to do is to be a good bridge between the whole staff and make sure everything get done on time. Unfortunately for me, there are two directors in that play as well. During the whole production, I not only have to do all the stuff but also deal with two directors that I certainly spent tons of energy on.

I always remember one thing continuously happened during the production of that play. Because I need to make sure both directors happy and keep things going to right direction on time, I always have to make up reasons when two directors have conflicts between them and force the production slow down. "You never really know what really happen behind the scene unless you are there"

Maybe Damon said "He is fine because he wants to show his toughness". Maybe Yankees want to find out what Christian can do. If Yankees don't plan on playing Damon every game the rest of season, why not let him rest on the turf against a lefty? If Yankees bring Sexson to hit lefty and don't play him against a lefty, when Yankees are going to use him? There must be some reasons for that. Giardi plays this game for a long time. I always trust, believe and respect specialty.

What a crazy game is!

I told you so on preview post. Yankees will somehow get a split against Angels. Baseball play on the field, not on paper.

First of all, When you consider yesterday game against Angels starts at 3am in Sydney and how terrible Yankees look like at the first 4 innings, you have to wonder how come I am able to watch the whole game? I am the one never give up my team until it is over, but I was about turning off my computer around 3rd inning yesterday and then I saw that Abreu's terrible base running mistake that cost Yankees a run and a possible rally. I decide to keep watching to see how terrible Yankees can play.

I am glad I did. What a crazy game is! Yesterday game is one of those games make fans crazy whatever your team win or lose. I am glad Yankees win this one.

Secondly, Whatever Yankees win or lose their chance to play in October, I rather watch Kennedy and Hughes(when he is ready) pitching and losing it. We all know what Ponson, Rasner and Pavano can do and their future are not going to be with Yankees. Give kids down the farm a chance to perform.

I actually thought Yankees had chances to score some runs on Lackey yesterday because his velocity seems down a little bit and if Yankees are able to lay off his breaking pitches which they did later on. When Edwar gave up that glam slam, I was screaming on my computer, "Are you kidding me? What a terrible way to lose a game". But, Christian came out and save Yankees fans' day. The speed Christian bring on the table is the most amazing play of yesterday game for me.

Don't even try to compare Papelbon to Mo...

Well, I can't decide to use which title. I was struggling to pick one of two titles. I was promising to use "Exciting win against RedSox" on the preview post, but I can't help to use this one. Another exciting win against RedSox, isn't it?

What the match-up is between Mo and Manny, isn't it? I was surprised at their decision not to walk Manny on that situation and screamed at my computer, but I guess don't tell HOF Mo to walk Manny! And then Papelbon was guessed right by rookie, Brett Gardner when he threw the first splitter to rookie who was waiting for. When you consider Wagner on Mets blew out another save at the same time, Mo is the best.

I am not going to go through the observation I have for Brett Gardner again. I like what I saw from him. What a series Brett Gardner has. We need real baseball players, like Jeter, Melky, Gardner, etc to win ballgame. Of course, I am not discount what other players do, but a championship team need all kind of ballplayers. Not everyone need to swipe for fence.

Joe Girardi looks like a genius for sure now. After getting threw out the game, Yankees did look like a different team. But, I think this has much to do with RedSox's horrible bullpen which no one talk about, but everyone talks about how horrible starting rotation and bullpen Yankees have.

Well, By the way, Everyone talks about how wonderful job Red Sox did to their farm system and how many wonderful young players they have. But, take a look at roster on RedSox and Yankees have. I think we are better if not for a lot of better.

2008 Subway Series Round 1 Pettitte vs Santana

First of all, This game was started at 3am and ended in 7am in Sydney. When you consider the time of the game, this is good game to watch and keep me away from falling sleep.

I guess a lot of people killing Yankees now. Are you one of them? When they lose games, tons of people jump on them and can't wait to kill them, especially those so called shortsighted "experts". If you come here to read negative things about Yankees, you come to the wrong place.

Do I worry about Andy? No. Based on what I saw today's game, Andy will be fine as long as he is healthy. He just doesn't have luck at all recently. I actually feel Andy pitch better than Santana who is not impressive at all, especially when you consider we don't have Posada and A-Rod in the lineup and tons of our hitters are struggling.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying Santana pitched badly. I have been watched few Santana's games this few years. I just don't think he is the same dominant pitcher and I am glad Yankees don't trade young kids for him. Down the road, maybe 2 years later, this non-trade move by Cashman may make him look like a genius. We will see.

I am glad to see Pettitte going out for 6th inning and finish that inning because it allows Girardi not to pitch Ohlendorf. This is good move when you consider Ohlendorf is the same style of pitcher as Wang(sinker/slider). If Ohlendorf pitch today, this may give Mets' hitters better preparation for tomorrow Wang's game.

I see a lot of good signs from our hitters, such as Jeter, Giambi, Abreu. But, the bottom of lineup is killing Yankees now. Duncan is dead fastball hitter. I think it's time to consider another option down the minors, such as speedy Brett Gardner. If Duncan can't improve and prove he can adjust to breaking pitches, he won't be successful in the major. I also think it's about time to cut Ensberg once A-Rod is back and healthy. Ensberg is not the same player as he was few years ago. As long as we have Alberto Gonzalz for infielders' replacement and Betemit will come back eventually, we should be fine.

I know our bullpen blow the game today, but they can't be good every time out when you consider they have been pitched great recently. That's why I give them a pass today. If Kyle and Joba come out and pitch great next time out, we will be fine.

Good news is A-Rod had his first reb game. If everything goes well, we will see him soon. Can't wait to have him back.

Tomorrow is another big game for Wang. We need to stay close to .500. It seems we say this every time when Wang take the mound. Hopefully, Wang will be able to give us a great game. Talk about pressure.

That's all for now. I need to go back to catch few hours sleep and then finish some works before Monday. I won't be able to watch Game 2 of subway series tomorrow because game will be started at 10am on Monday in Sydney. Hopefully, Without me watching, it may bring Yankees more luck. I always feel it's my fault to bring bad luck to Yankees when I watch Yankees losing games because I am the one doesn't have any luck at all in my life.

What a great honor for Wang

There is no surprise Wang get opening start honor. Congrats to Wang and all Taiwanese because I can't help thinking Wang will be the last Opening Starter at that historic old Yankees Stadium. What a honor!

It seems Morgan Ensberg is going to make the team. I pick Cody Ransom over him that look like there is very slim chance for Ransom to make the team now. Wrong prediction, but I did said as follow,

The reason Cashman want Morgan Ensberg is an insurance of Shelley Duncan. Just in case, Shelley Duncan can't keep his production this season, so I won't surprise at Ensberg getting last spot as well if Ransom accept to go to minor.

By the way, Wang told Taiwanese media why this is great honor for him because his first major start was at this old Yankees stadium. Therefore, Being the last opening starter at this old Yankees stadium means a lot for him.

HOU@NYY March 7th(Andy vs Chacon)

Jason Lane is impressive, isn't he? But, if Betemit won't be able to play 2B and SS well, Nick Green or Chris Woodward will get that last spot. If Jason Lane did make the team, Melky will be in dangerous situation regard for playing time.

Brett Gardner is also impressive, especially he threw out a runner at the home plate. On top of that, He got that hit for a RBI. It's too bad we just have 25 spots on the active roster.

LaTroy Hawkins will be fine in my opinion. Mo is Mo. I was so excited at Mo's inning, but it was too short in my opinion.

Thursday, March 6, 2008

That's why I love Melky so much...

Did you guys see that catch from Melky? Melky called off Cano and ran to catch that soft fly ball to center field. Did you guys also see Melky throwing out a Twins when he was trying get to third? I know, Melky has some problems on offense part, but Man, please put him on the center field.

As a today spring training game, two relievers, Heath Phillips and Ross Ohlendorf are impressive for me today. There are also two relievers who throw strikes named Jonathan Albaladejo and Chris Britton.

I don't really care too much how starters perform during spring training. They will be just fine, they just need to focus on the pitch they need to work on. For example, Joba(Changeup/Curve); Hughes(Changeup); Wang(Changeup/Splitter), etc. I pay more attention on bullpen and bench that have competition for spots because all 6 starters will all pitch at some point during season. They will protect Big Three and Mussina, Pettitte and Wang may need a break once a while.

By the way, Where is Jose Veras? I feel I haven't seen him pitched lately.

If I have to put my money on 25-men roster now, here they are as follows,

For sure barring injury(23):

Starters(5):Wang, Pettitte, Mussina, Hughes, Kennedy
Bullpen(6):Mo(closer), Joba(Setup), Kyle, LaTroy, Jeff Karstens(long reliever), Ross Ohlendorf
Starting lineup(9):Damon, Jeter, Abreu, A-Rod, Giambi, Posada, Cano, Matsui, Melky
Bench(3):Shelley, Molina, Betemit

Two more spots(2):

I think one spot goes to reliever; other spot goes to bench

They probably prefer lefty for that last spot if one of lefty can prove himself worth for that spot. Right now, the leading runner is Heath Phillips or Billy Traber. The dark horse is probably Chase Wright or Sean Henn(very far). If no lefty is worthy, Jose Veras or Jonathan Albaladejo probably will get that last spot(They also may fight with Ross Ohlendorf for that spot as well). This is the tough call now, but I bet on Billy Traber to break camp when Heath Phillips wait on AAA.

The last bench spot probably goes to super infielder unility player because Yankees already have enough depth on outfielders. Brett Gardner and Jason Lane really have to have monster spring training to win that last spot over. They really need someone to play all infield positions, especially for SS and 2B, so Nick Green or Chris Woodward probably will get that last spot. If I have to bet on that now, I will go to Chris Woodward.

Broadcast

I guess no news is good news during spring training. As you guys know, Internet is so expensive in Australia, so I couldn't afford to watch every Yankees spring training games. I was listening to WCBS for Pettitte first spring training game. I actually enjoy listening to John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman, but It's quite difficult to figure out exactly what happened on the field.

I may be too picky about broadcasting because of my background. When I was watching FSN for Mussina first spring training game, I couldn't tell pitcher's location very well from their center-field camera.

By the way, Jason Lane(Defense+Different positions) and Jeff Karstens(pitched well against starting lineup) are impressive so far for me.

Yankees Problem 1:against lefty

I think Yankees notice this problem and build up a nice bench for Joe Girardi. I do think Joe Girardi will be very creative for his lineup and in-game decisions. Great. At least nice competition for backup infielder or outfielder at the spring training, right?

Morgan Ensberg
Jason Lane
Nick Green
Kevin Mench(Yankees show interest recently)

My ideal 2008 Yankees Roster barring injury

Starting Lineup......

1.Johnny Damon L/LF,DH,CF
2.Derek Jeter R/SS
3.Bobby Abrea L/RF
4.Alex Rodriguez R/3B
5.Hideki Matsui L/DH,LF,CF-his position in Japan
(10.Jason Giambi L/DH,1B)
6.Jorge Posada S/C
7.Robinson Cano L/2B
8.Shelley Duncan R/1B,RF
9.Melky Cabrera S/CF,LF

Option 1:Giambi and Matsui share DH spot

Option 2:Giambi play a little 1B(share with Shelley). When Giambi play 1B, I will move Giambi ahead of Cano.I like what I saw from Shelley Duncan last season. If Yankees let him play 1B full season,I believe he will be that right-hand power hitter yankees are looking for.Hopefully,Duncan off-season injury is not a issue any more.I don't think Giambi can be injury free when he play defense.

Option 3:Let Shelley Duncan play Right field and give Abrea some day off(especial face tough left hand pitcher).I think Shelley play well and has strong arm at right field.

Option 4:If Giambi produce and play well as DH(I believe Giambi will be big lift for Yankees in 2008 if they put him in DH spot all season and stay away from injury),Yankees can rotate Matsui,Damon and Melky on LF and CF and give one of them day off

Bench......

11.Wilson Betemit S-better at Left hand/3B,SS,1B
12. Nick Green R/2B,3B,SS,1B-not much
(Alberto Gonzalez R/SS)
13.Jose Molina R/backup Catcher

I know Yankees sign a deal with Nick Green and Alberto Gonazlez has a hot winter league. If Nick Green doesn't make the team out of spring training,he can opt out the contract.I will choose either Nick Green or Alberto Gonazlez as backup infielder, but I prefer Nick Green because he can play many infielders positions, especially for 2B

Rotation......

14.Chien-Ming Wang
15.Mike Mussina/16.Ian Kennedy
17.Andy Pettitte
18.Phil Hughes/16.Ian Kennedy
19.Joba Chamberlain

First of all,I hope Yankees don't trade kids for Santana.I like what I saw from Kennedy,Hughes and Melky.I believe the total values from this trio are greater than Santana and let alone the big long term contract.

There are two reasons I won't use 6 man rotation.Firstly,We need to pitch Wang and Pettitte as much as We can.Of course,we always can replace Wang and Pettitte with 6th guy if they are tired and need some break.Secondly, all of them will lose their rhythm, especially there are a lot of off-dates on schedule as well.

I won't leave Joba in the bullpen.I want to know what Joba can do as a starter. If he can't do that and we always can move him back.I also believe Joba will have more healthy issue if we leave him in the bullpen.Let him get his rhythm as a starter is better for long term plan.I believe we can find our 2008 Joba in the bullpen from farm system

I will go into season with this rotation in this order.Firstly,Wang and Pettitte will give us innings,so we have to separate them.Secondly,Joba will be my no.5 starter and we can skip him with off dates in order to reduce his workload.Thirdly,I will let Kennedy stand by when Mussina pitch even though I believe Mussina will bounce back and have good season, especially 2008 will be his walk year.Fourthly,I will let Kennedy serve as long man or replace Hughes with Kennedy at times in order to reduce Hughes workload if Mussina pitch well

Bullpen......

20.Mariano Rivera(Closer)
21.LaTroy Hawkins(Setup man)
22.Kyle Farnsworth(7-inning guy)
23.Jose Veras
24.Jonathan Albaladejo
25.Edwar Ramirez

First of all,I believe the only thing Cashman has to deal with the rest of off-season is bullpen. If he can sign some free agents or trade some guys for bullpen help at reasonable costs,it will be great.Otherwise,it will be smarter to find solutions from farm system, especially we have Girardi as our new manager.I believe Girardi can handle bullpen better than Torre.

Other bullpen choices......

Chase Wright/Kei Igawa:If we can't sign or trade a left hand relief,I don't think we have to have one in the bullpen. But,I definitely take a look at them in the spring training.

Jeff Karstens/Darrell Rasner:If we have injury from our rotation and need someone else to replace Kennedy as long man or Girardi need second long man in the bullpen,I will take a look at them in the spring training.

Ross Ohlendorf/Chris Britton/Scott Patterson:They can compete with Jose Veras,Jon Albaladejo and Edwar Ramirez.
